ENG production is similar to news gathering or documenting an event, EFP production involves additional planning, more stylized lighting, and crafting message through the editing process.

With proper planning can we shoot enough of the right images to edit an engaging workhorse video.

The Business Review – Award Recipient Video

Project Overview
We were hired by the Business Review to make a short video introducing each company receiving an award. One representative from each company appeared for an interview, and we had approximately two hours to shoot additional b-roll footage. We completed 6 of these over three days.

Shooting
We had three crew members, including a Videographer, Audio tech, and lighting tech. The client was in charge of scheduling. Each of the businesses was notified of the particulars of the shoot and asked to identify possible shooting locations and activities to shoot. We traveled to each location with two carts and a couple of camera bags. Our lighting kit was designed for both ambient fill lighting and stylized interview lighting.

In each of these setups, we needed to either document or reenact an aspect of “business operations.” The companies themselves came up with the reenactments, and we arranged them for camera angle and optimum lighting.

Editing
Our narrative structure was predetermined. Questions were asked to facilitate sound bites regarding who were are, what we do it, how we do it, and our culture. These provide the sound bites we needed to weave. This predetermined structure made the actual edit relatively straightforward and revolved around the interview questions and reenactments.


Graphics
We used two motion graphic templates to add some extra level of production quality to the piece. The templates are relatively inexpensive, but they often take more than a little customization to keep them from feeling hokey. Good motion graphics can raise the level of your brand’s image, but overuse can detract from messaging.

BlueRock Energy – Testimonial Video

Project Objectives
Our goal was to create a testimonial video and use it as an anchor video for their website. BlueRock Energy would send the video and additional story points in an email to it’s customer base.

Video Shoot
This was a one-day shoot with three crew members, including a Videographer, Audio tech, and lighting tech. The client was in charge of scheduling. The B-roll shooting was done by way of a walking tour. We shot two sit-down interviews, two reenactments, and the walking tour over an eleven-hour day.

Editing 
The video’s narrative was predetermined as a testimonial success story. The interview questions were structured to tell the success story with soundbites. The footage has been organized based on when it was shot that day, so this type of edit organizes relatively quickly.

Editing Style
This video intercuts the footage shot during a walking tour, a client consulting session and three interviews.The narrative relies on the interviews and sound up dialogue during the tour and the client consult session. Incorporating sound bits from unscripted interactions go a long way to anchor the piece in authenticity. The interview points are boosted and punctuated by the “sound-up” b-roll footage.

 

SKS – Digital Product Catalog

Project Overview
We were hired to shoot bottles for a digital catalogue. This collection would appear on their website and integrated into digital communication.

Shooting
Product shooting like this requires a studio setting with a studio lighting setup.

The product is set up on a sweep and in this case a tent of white and black flags to provide pleasant reflections. We shot the product using a camera slider that allowed us to dolly the camera across the product or into and away from the product.

Shooting with the dolly adds a nice dynamic to what would otherwise be a static shot. This movement along with post production transitions give the product life and make it  more visually appealing.

Post Production
Labeling these files properly during import is essential. Onsite shot-list notes and accurate record is key to an efficient post production process. Once labeled the files are grouped and arranged into a product stage walk.
